Bacardi 8 Year Old Rum is aged to perfection, beautifully capturing rare flavours from the Bacardi family’s treasured recipe. Bacardi was founded in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba, when he bought a distillery and revolutionised the rum-making process to create a smooth, light-bodied spirit and what the world now knows as Bacardi Rum. On the palate, the rum is sweet and rich, with a delicious combination of tropical fruits, peels, and winter spices. Prolonged ageing allows a concentration of flavours via evaporation and extended contact with charred wood, causing tannins to diffuse into the rum. This 8 year old rum from the Bacardi range is more than suitable for sipping neat, but it also works incredibly well in cocktails and mixed drinks.

Based on that it is very likely that any 8 year old Bacardi that was sold in the US was actually made in Puerto Rico, but the bottle I have it’s from the Bahamas because, well, UK is in Europe. This complexity of flavours is also what makes BACARDÍ Reserva 8 particularly suited to cocktails that require depth and balance such as an Old Fashioned, Rum Negroni, or Hotel Nacional. It is a blend of Bacardi's finest Caribbean rums, is aged at least eight years in carefully selected, small, mature oak casks , then masterfully blended to develop the rounded complexity of that only the finest aged rums attain to. Created in 1862 Bacardi 8 year old was initially the sole reserve of the family and would only be served on rare occasions.

With its luscious and gentle flavours, this rum is perfect for sipping neat or for use in cocktails and mixed drinks. It also provides a wonderful depth of flavour to any dark rum cocktail, such as a Rum Old Fashioned. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. To date as far as I understand the Bacardi’s I have tried have been from the Puerto Rican distillery. From what I’ve seen people were claiming that, despite the change of packaging, the bottle contains the same juice, but that’s definitely not the case for at least one reason – the location where it was produced. Bacardi 8 Year Old Rum is the premium dark rum from Bacardi made from a blend of rums from between 8 and 16 years old. uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties.

Known as "The Family Reserve", this BACARDÍ rum was inspired by a recipe from 1862 and was originally kept for family special occasions, but is now available for the world to enjoy. Production: original recipe by Don Facundo Bacardi, aged for 8 years in selected North American oak barrels in the Caribbean climate. Incidentally the Bacardi Gold (or Oro as it is now) has recently been re-released in the UK as a 40% offering as opposed to the previous 37. It is also Bonsucro® certified – the world’s highest level for sustainable sugarcane production, which also ensures fair wages and conditions for sugarcane workers. It is said that Bacardi 8 was created in 1862 and kept private for the Bacardi family for 7 generations. The combination of molasses base, different distillations and filtrations is carefully considered and balanced perfectly here. Used only for the most special occasions, this golden sipping rum is one of the oldest private rum blends in the world. The current Bacardi Ocho reads on the label “Hecho en Puerto Rico” meaning “Made in Puerto Rico”, which makes sense, but if you read the back label of the Bacardi 8 Year Old it says “Product of Nassau, Bahamas”. Until a few years ago reserved for the Bacardi family, it embodies all the values that true connoisseurs appreciate: first-class quality, great tradition and passion.
