Computers can be designed to do almost anything with information. Computers are used to control large and small machines that, in the past, were controlled by humans. Most people have a personal computer at home or at work. They are used for things such as calculation, listening to music, reading an article, writing, or playing games. Computers can be classified as one of three types of computers: a general-purpose computer, special-purpose computer, or specialized computer. The speed, power and versatility of computers have been increasing dramatically ever since then, with transistor counts increasing at a rapid pace (as predicted by Moore's law), leading to the Digital Revolution during the late 20th to early 21st centuries. Computer once meant a person who did computations, but now the term almost universally refers to automated electronic machinery.
