They also sell a midge-proof hair net, but we didn’t see enough midges to require using it – sexy though it is. We don’t just sit about, so we will be out and about and don’t want our activities to be ruined by midge attacks. You may need to apply repellent more often in areas of high humidity or when you perspire a great deal.

Explore quintessential England walking the Cotswold way or one of our other carefully curated Cotswolds tours. As they are so sensitive to weather conditions, you may not even see any at all (but you'll be ready if you do)! Just remember to re-apply Smidge every 8 hours, or more often following swimming, intense exercise or exposure to very wet or humid conditions. It’s summer in Scotland and as well as the beautiful weather, incredible scenery and welcoming people, there is a fair chance of seeing a midge or two, particularly on the West Highland Way. In the event of any safety concerns or for any other information about a product please carefully read any instructions provided on the label or packaging and contact the manufacturer.Devised and made in Scotland (where we know about midges), it keeps the midges away and can moisturise your skin at the same time. This formula both throws midges off your scent (by blocking antennal receptors), and stops you tasting so appealing.

Midges have been around for thousands of years but with climate change, they are increasing their range and extending their season. As I said, others in our party were using the products as directed and getting bitten nowhere near as much as me, if at all. This is DEET based and you should be aware it can ruin some plastics, such as watchstraps, but it does see off a wide range of insects including midges. It's not the best product ive ever used for the job but certainly the best i would use on my children or anyone with a more sensative skin type. Completely natural, with no hidden chemicals or scary Deet or citronella, Midge-Los has a pleasant smell of refreshing peppermint and geranium.Containing Picaridin (also known as Saltidin), which is recommended by the WHO and Public Health England for effective biting-insect protection, Smidge is your perfect travel companion for home and abroad. Midge Magic is supplied in a 75ml pump action spray for easy application and it is said to be suitable for use by children from 6 months and upwards. Well, I decided t take the opportunity to approach a number of manufacturers of midge repellents, take them all on holiday and get our group of 6 to give them a test.

Apparently, if you are particularly appetising and sensitive to midges then some of the bites will come up into rather large blisters, so guess what I have all over my ankles? Take on national trails, the great walks of the world, pedal long-distance paths, and achieve something great. Tornato in Italia l'ho sfruttato per le zanzare tigre e non e devo dire che non mi è mai capitato di esser stato punto anche quando ce n'erano parecchie in giro. Thanks to those fearless men and women, you can rely on Smidge to keep the beasties at bay during your next adventure. So for the purposes of testing, unfortunately I am the perfect test case for these little critters and the repellents we have bought along with us. Our middle daughter regularly used Smidge and Avon Skin-So-Soft whilst in Scotland and didn’t suffer any bites. Midges target their victims by sensing carbon dioxide in exhaled breath and other odours associated with their targets. So it looks at though the Trek Midge is better value, especially when you factor in that on an normal human, it should last for up to 12 hours.

Only the LifeSystems had any amount of Deet in it and when Mrs TentLife tried it she said that a midge did land on her arm and immediately left as quickly as it arrived. Some of the stuff says it will last for 8/12 hours, but because I appear to be some kind of gourmet banquet the normal rules don’t apply to me (brilliant) – We shall find out. The 20% Saltidin® based formulation offers medium-high level protection against biting insects for up to 8 hours. After about an hour I started to feel better and went to bed trying not to panic about something happening in the middle of the night, alone in the tent with my kids.I found myself favouring the Trek Midge and Tick as personally for me it didn’t wear off as quickly.
